Minority: Ricci v. DeStefano (2009)
Eighteen firefighters, seventeen white one Hispanic, took a test for promotions and passed but the city refused to grant them promotions. New Haven official invalidated the test results because none of the black firefighters who passed the exam had scored high enough to be considered for the positions. In the end they won.
Religious: Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow (2004)
This suit was about the words "under God" being in the Pledge. One father tried to say that it was unjust to have "under God" in the pledge and should be removed from recitation. But the supreme court said that the father of the child was a noncustodial parent and did not have standing to bring the suit on his daughters behalf because the mother had sol custody over the child.
School System: Safford Unified School District vs. Redding
A mother said that the fourth amendment was violated when her child was unreasonably searcher at school for ibuprofen. The supreme court agreed saying the fourth amendment was violated.
