Antifederalists: 1. Antifederalists believed that the constitution took away too much power from the states. 2. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.


Federalists: 1. Federalists advocated for ratification of the Constitution. Wanted a strong central government. 2. Alexander Hamilton and George Washington.


1800-1860
Democrats: 1. The Democrat party favored "liberal" positions (social liberalism). 2. Thomas Jefferson

Whigs: 1. Whigs favored the restoration of the national bank. 2. Henry Clay and Daniel Webster.

1860-1932
Democrats: 1. The wanted voting rights got all white males, a huge increase in the number f elected offices, and the spread of spoils system. 2. Andrew Jackson.
